envy

this is a typographic project, which involved the seven deadly sins. through research i looked into envy and created a design relating to the green eyed monster using letters as the basis

book extracts

these are a couple of extracts from prototype pages of a how to guide to make a paper airoplane based on the russian avant garde movement, specifically El Lissitzky.

linolopolis

this is a tryout at lino printing in relation to the metropolis brief. what i've learnt from this is when i want to overlap letters i do it on separate lino sheets

speech-man

colour try outs

these are a compilation of colour ideas for my illustraion. just experimenting which colours work well or if a back drop is better.

speech project

the brief was to design four images on my opinions and views i have on the world using one of four symbols for every outcome, choosing the speech bubble. the topics i looked into were democracy, censorship, social networking and freedom of speech. i used different media for each one from screen printing 'i love speech' to cutting out the word democracy onto another surface.

lennon

for this project my brief was to produce an illustration of someone famous for a magazine cover. the anniversary of Lennons' death was near so thought it was an opportunity to commemorate the legend's legacy. the first image has his killer, Mark David Chapman, in the background, which related to his tragic death. the others have new york where he lived before he died and the last one is with some of his famous quotes with him on the world which he inspired.

lines buildings

this was to experiment with a selection of traditional media from white paint to fine liner. my class and i created a card board city, varying in scale to have a selection of buildings to draw from.

g

this is an inspirational 3d g to help me design my own g typeface

hierarchy

this was inspired by class and how far up the financial ladder you were by the income of certain jobs. i put it in a form of building (relating to metropolis), instead of the standard triangle chart.

UK population

i wanted to evolve my first metropolis ideas and look into issues that related to the subject. population is a world issue, but i could develop the image the image by adding a key relating to what the different tones represent.

dystopia utopia revisited

these are rough ideas of how to layer the two different words. i looked into various ways i could relate metropolis and utopia/dystopia and designed an image that could produce two images, seen by different angles.

democracy

this was one of my outcomes for a university project to communicate my issues i have with the world using a speech bubble icon.

metropolis first ideas

these are first ideas based around the words itself. some ideas inspired from existing iconic symbols and logos that relate to the topic. i think the use of letters are key to leading to my final design because i could adapt them to a strong outcome. they might be lacking in colour, however i do not consider cities to be colourful places in their concrete layout.
